WinComfort is engineered with a 'Zero-Trust, Zero-Knowledge' philosophy. We believe your clipboard history and calendar data are personal and should never leave your device.

Information We Collect

WinComfort collects zero analytics data. We don't track any of the following:

  • User behavior or usage patterns
  • Feature usage statistics
  • Device identifiers or IP addresses
  • Crash reports or diagnostic data
  • Personal information from your system

No Telemetry: We do not track your usage, we do not collect analytics, and we do not have servers. The app is completely offline-capable.

How We Use Your Information

WinComfort operates entirely offline with local processing:

App Sandbox

WinComfort runs within the macOS App Sandbox, restricting access to system resources and user data.

Secure Input Filtering

Automatically detects password managers (1Password, Keychain) and ignores copied content.

Local Processing

All OCR, AI analysis, and text processing happen 100% on-device using Vision and CoreML frameworks.

iCloud Encryption

Syncing is handled via Apple's NSUbiquitousKeyValueStore. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple.

iCloud Synchronization

WinComfort syncs settings across your devices via iCloud Key-Value Store with end-to-end encryption. Your clipboard data never syncs—it stays local to each device.

Settings that DO sync across devices:

  • Window Snapping enabled/disabled
  • Clipboard history enabled/disabled
  • Clipboard history limit (10, 25, 50, or 100 items)
  • Calendar enabled/disabled
  • Calendar date format
  • World clock zones
  • Battery Saver Mode enabled/disabled
  • AI Features enabled/disabled

Data that stays LOCAL (never syncs):

  • Clipboard history items (text, images, rich content)
  • Cached item previews

iCloud sync uses Apple's end-to-end encryption. Your settings remain private even from Apple.

Data Storage and Security

Your data stays on your device. Here's how we protect it:

  • Clipboard data is stored in macOS Core Data (local only)
  • Settings are stored in iCloud Key-Value Store (encrypted)
  • No clipboard data ever leaves your Mac
  • Settings auto-sync across your devices via iCloud (encrypted)
  • We never back up your clipboard to cloud services

WinComfort uses only native macOS APIs. We don't embed any third-party libraries that could potentially access your data.

Permissions Transparency

We only request permissions when absolutely necessary:

Permissions:

  • Accessibility: To move and resize windows via the Accessibility API (only when triggering snap).
  • Screen Recording: To capture pixels for OCR text extraction (only during region selection).
  • Calendar: To show upcoming events in the menu bar (read-only, local display).
  • Microphone: To toggle the system microphone for Global Mic Mute (user-initiated only). WinComfort requests microphone access via the standard permission prompt and requires the com.apple.security.device.audio-input entitlement. If access is denied, the app will direct you to System Settings.

We DON'T:

  • Record keyboard input
  • Continuously record screen
  • Transmit data to servers

Sensitive Data Detection

WinComfort's clipboard monitor has built-in protection for sensitive information:

  • Detects passwords from 1Password and macOS Keychain and automatically skips them
  • Does not store or transmit this data
  • Only stores clipboard data you explicitly copy
  • Detects items marked with org.nspasteboard.ConcealedType (password managers)
